Greetings from the Governor

February, 2010

The Holidays are behind us and it is time to begin planning for our 2010 Calendar of Events for the New Jersey State Mayflower Society. We are planning a very eventful year and we are hoping that you will set aside our dates and try and participate in the festivities.

First, we have our Charter back. It has been made Archival safe and it certainly is a beautiful work of art. We had budgeted $1800 for the restoration and we came in $223.00 under budget of which I am very proud. The Charter presented to us in the year 1900 had been mounted on non archival wood which took 15 hours in a special gas chamber to extract it without damaging it. I think you will be pleased with the outcome. The Charter will be on display at all meetings, so everyone may see it.

Secondly, 2010 is the 75th Anniversary of the Mayflower Quarterly. We are privileged to have both the Editor and Assistant Editor as members of our organization. We will be celebrating this Anniversary at our Spring Meeting on May 15, 2010 at the Lambertville Inn. We are also pleased to announce that our Governor General, Judith Swan will be with us to help celebrate this memorable occasion. She will also be our speaker at this meeting. We hope as many of you as can will set this date aside and show our Governor General a large turnout. The Lambertville Inn overlooking the Delaware River will be beautiful in May when the flowers and trees will be showing their faces from the long winter drabs.

I am sure you are aware that the NJSMD Society has two Colonies, The First Colony and the Jersey Cape Colony. The First Colony has Meetings in the Spring & Fall in the upper southern New Jersey area, and the Jersey Cape Colony also has two such meetings in the lower seashore area. Both Colonies would welcome your attendance to their luncheons and if you would be interested in serving on a committee in either the Colony or State we would appreciate you letting us know.

I try to attend each State and Colony meeting so I will be available to answer questions you might have.

I look forward to meeting and speaking with you. I may also be reached at hengleman@msn.com or (856)482-9447.

Also be sure to check out our web site http://www.NJMayflower.org.

    Sincerely,

    Jane Engleman
