Greetings from the Governor

Fall, 2011

The Fall of 2011 is fast approaching and this is my last letter to the membership as your Governor. I have enjoyed serving you and hope I have lived up to your expectations of a Governor.

This year especially has been very difficult for those living in New Jersey. Despite the economy we have had multiple snow storms, an earthquake, Hurricane Irene and flooding throughout the State. I hope all of you have weathered the weather well and are ready to get back into Mayflower Festivities.

I have returned from the 39th Congress in Plymouth, MA. We elected new officers at the General Society level and the General Society Board of Assistants has voted to hold their next Board Meeting here in New Jersey in 2012. The dates for this will be September 6-9, 2012 at the Wyndham, Mount Laurel. There will be more information as the time approaches, but the dates could be set aside for many to attend. There will be several tours available and it would be nice to have a large group attending. It would also give each person insight into the workings of the General Society.

The Awards Committee of the 39th Mayflower General Congress presented our State Historian Phyllis Hansen a certificate of recognition for her 30 + years of service. Congratulations Phyllis!

At the November Compact Day luncheon, we will have election of new officers at our state level & hope as many as are able will plan to attend the luncheon. We will be honoring our new Scholars at that time also.

The Compact Day Luncheon calls a sorrowful end to Alice Teal writing our New Jersey Newsletter. Alice has been writing the Newsletter for 25 years & has done a wonderful job. We hate to see this happen, but we will still have her skills in writing the Mayflower Quarterly & her attendance to our meetings.

I hope you will back our new officers as you have backed me through my 3 year term. I will be attending as many events as I can and will be very glad to see all of you in the future.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and remember our Pilgrim Ancestors.
